ABOUT DR. FRIEDER LOESEL
Frieder is an entrepreneur and senior executive in the Medical Technology sector
In 1999 he founded 20/10 PERFECT VISION AG together with Prof. Josef Bille in Heidelberg and serves as its Managing Director (Vorstand) since. Under Frieder’s leadership the company developed and launched the first FDA-approved wavefront diagnostic device WaveScan, which later was acquired by VISX (now J&J VISION), as well as 20/10 PERFECT VISION’s unique femtosecond laser workstation for ophthalmic surgery.
Together with Dr. Kristian Hohla he further formed Technolas Perfect Vision GmbH (Munich) in 2009. Technolas Perfect Vision was a joint venture between 20/10 PERFECT VISION and Bausch & Lomb, a leading global eye health company headquartered in Rochester, NY, with more than 11,000 employees worldwide. Frieder also served as Technolas Perfect Vision’s Chief Strategy Officer (CSO). In 2013 Bausch + Lomb acquired all outstanding shares of Technolas Perfect Vision.
Together with Dr. Kristian Hohla he further formed Technolas Perfect Vision GmbH (Munich) in 2009. Technolas Perfect Vision was a joint venture between 20/10 PERFECT VISION and Bausch & Lomb, a leading global eye health company headquartered in Rochester, NY, with more than 11,000 employees worldwide. Frieder also served as Technolas Perfect Vision’s Chief Strategy Officer (CSO). In 2013 Bausch + Lomb acquired all outstanding shares of Technolas Perfect Vision.
Frieder’s work and products have been recognized by several awards, like former Prime Minister Erwin Teufel’s CyberOne Award (2003), the Photonics Circle of Excellence Award (2003) for WaveScan – recognizing the 25 most technically innovative new products of the year, and Top-5 finalist of Innovationspreis der Deutschen Wirtschaft (2004).
Frieder received the diploma and Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Heidelberg.
He worked as a scientist focusing on biomedical applications and lasers at the University of California Irvine, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, and the University of Michigan.
Frieder has been involved in the development of lasers and respective surgical applications for more than 20 years and has authored numerous international publications in these fields.
Frieder is also a serial inventor in ophthalmology, lasers, optics, and materials processing with more than 40 international patents and patent applications (patent families), e.g. on the SUPRACOR laser procedure for presbyopia.
Together with Dr. Christopher Horvath he was also co-creator of WinLase, a laser design software popular with laser manufacturers, industry, and academia.
Frieder is an Alumni of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes.
